IFDA International Platinum Sponsor, The Shade Store, hosted DCOTA Winter Market keynote speaker Cortney Novogratz.

Samantha Snowden, Marketing Director for The Shade Store, welcomed an enthusiastic crowd as she introduced Interior Designer and TV personality Cortney Novogratz, known for her quirky, hip interiors.

Cortney and her husband Robert like to take on a design project and create a totally unique, wildly original space that showcases their funky, downtown-chic aesthetic, their unpretentious sensibility and their self taught, drop-dead gorgeous style.

One of their latest projects is a collection for The Shade Store that marries vintage with modern. These are just two of many delightful patterns.

Colored Dots - wave

Indian Summer - bright

The Novogratz, as they are known, “created these collections to inspire and remind us that the home is a sanctuary; to believe that anything is possible; to have fun and treat yourself and your family; and that home and family are what matter the most.”

Cortney shared her design philosophy and inspirations.  Travel is essential even if it is just a new route to work to give a fresh perspective. Having lots of children makes her think about function. Color and pattern can both make a statement and hide imperfections.  She often mixes metals, pattern and colors and loves layering sheers with draperies. “Anything goes if it is great.”

Local Florida Chapter members and a full house learn what Cortney likes to do when she first meets with a client. She listens and takes their lead.  She tells them, “Let us help you enjoy the process”.

Novogratz fans packed The Shade Store engaging in a fun and informative Q and A.

Another consuming project is their “new” LA home build in 1926, complete with turrets, nooks, lots of character and a beautiful view. So far they have gutted the interior to bring it up to code and designed a floor plan that works for living and entertaining. They kept as many of the original details as they could to maintain the historical character. Follow their adventures in their new on line series on People.com
