Introducing Member Maria Mendoza who, along with her husband Lope are owners of  DRC (Designer Resource Center) a to-the-trade-only, one stop designer destination  in Boca Raton.  As a Florida Chapter Sponsor, DRC is one of our “Preferred Resources”.  Getting to know Maria has been delightful. Her interview below is inspiring.

Unknown-1

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Venezuela, but spent summers and winters in Miami. My grandparents are cuban and came to the US in 59 and 61

When and why did you move to Florida?

I studied in FIU Interior Architecture and worked with professors, 2007 had to come with Lope and the 3 girls due to political issues. We took a stand against corruption  and were forced to leave the country.

How did you get started in this industry?

We took over the business that was in a very low point.

What inspires you?

Making the world a better place one person at a time. I believe in building relationships. Our business gives us that opportunity. We show every client that they are important by providing the best service we are able to.  Bill is specially good at that. He makes us all look good.

Tell us about one of your biggest accomplishments or design success stories.

I did a renovation of a hospital in a low income area in Venezuela. With a minimal budget we were able to make the hospital look like a private clinic; facade, landscape and interior. It was very rewarding to see the doctors become so proud of their hospital.

What’s on your bucket list?

Make DRC the “Design Studio” for our clients. Our top designers know that DRC is “their” Studio. We are not a retail store nor a large showroom, we are an exclusive studio for our clients to utilize as their own. They benefit from the advantage of having a studio without the headaches and commitments.

Complete these sentences.

I dream of: a world with peace (live and let live) and a world with housing and food for all.

What I like to do when I am not working is: be with my family

Why did you join IFDA and how long have you been a member?

Because Myra told me to. 2008

What is your best advice to someone who is new to IFDA about maximizing their membership experience?

Get involved.

What has been the best part of being involved with IFDA?

Meeting great people.

If you stop by the showroom you are likely to meet the whole Mendoza family who have literally grown up in this inspiring family business.
