Here’s a quick video history of IFDA, the International Furnishings and Design Association, from 1947 through 2007. For more about this world-wide home furnishings professional and educational association, which will be celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2017.
What a wonderful history we have shared. My own entry into the world of NHFL came in 1977. From the moment my membership was approved, I jumped into this wonderful organization with both feet. Over the years of my involvement I have been fortunate to serve on the Boards of two chapters. While president of the Philadelphia Chapter for five years we experienced a lull and a resurgence of membership. The chapter thrives today with superb leadership and programming. Serving on the national board of NHFL during the exciting years of forward thinking change, (change of organization name and inviting male members into our group) couldn’t have been more gratifying. Serving as Chair of Educational Foundation was the true highlight of my membership. The re-structuring of the Educational Foundation Board and its mission was an achievement that makes me proud. Watching the advancement and success of EF on the video is a testimony to its vital importance in our industry.
Moving to Florida almost ten years ago, I found myself at a Florida Chapter meeting at the invitation of then President, Myra Schwartz. The rest is history for me. I am a proud member of the Florida Chapter board. History repeats itself in IFDA.
My advice to anyone reading this who may not be a current member-WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? My advice to you is become a member and jump right in the way I did so many years ago. You will never be sorry.
Great Comment Leah, who is also an FIFDA having achieved the remarkable honor of becoming a Fellow in recognition of her many years of service to IFDA and her community. I love your story. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I also wanted to say how impressive this video is. The history of our organization is a true testament of how or industry has evolved. Congratulations to all who made it great. Thanks also to our New York Chapter for producing this amazing video. Now we celebrate 70 years!
