The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale recently held a panel discussion for their students that included 2 of our members. Caroline Rogow who is also the incoming chairperson for the Education Foundation and Past President of the Florida Chapter and Susan Slotkis NY Chapter member who has moved to Florida for the year, along with other industry professionals lead an informative discussion about the Keys to Success in the Design Industry with a room of over thirty design students.
The panel was moderated by Jerome Gomez, Program Coordinator of Design, who also created and promoted the event for the students who were eager to listen to the panel and ask questions about what they needed to do to prepare for their careers, what companies are looking for, internships and more.
The panel consisted of experienced industry professionals in Interior Design, the Industrial Arts, and Education. Caroline Rogow shared the benefits afforded by being part of trade organizations like IFDA and the opportunity to receive scholarships and grants through the Education Foundation. Susan Slotkis shared insights about the industry. ASID was also represented.
Above are Rick Boggs who designs and installs temporary spaces such as for galleries and trade shows, Marsha Koch, President of IFDA Florida, Jerome Gomez from the Art Institute, Caroline Rogow, Past President of the Florida Chapter and incoming EF Chairperson and Susan Sloktis, temporary Florida resident and member of the NY Chapter.
Meet our new Student Member Asal Sardar. After the panel she decided IFDA was going to be one of her Keys to Success! She is welcomed into the chapter by Marsha Koch and Caroline Rogow. Asal has attended a recent networking event at a Sponsor’s showroom and has begun to make valuable connections.
We had two students complete their registration forms that day. Martine Louis’s application is awaiting additional paperwork . We are delighted that she will soon become part of our IFDA family.
We were honored to have our members as part of this motivating and inspiring event. We were able to give the students valuable insights into their profession and encourage them to join IFDA and take advantage of our Education Foundation. When Asal and Martine walked up to our IFDA table and asked to join that was the perfect way to celebrate a successful day.
Jerome was so pleased with the outcome of the event he is planning the next one already. IFDA members frequently sit on the panel of judges for the students portfolio, which is another great way to build a relationship with our local design schools.
